There are 45 Link Schemes covering most of Wiltshire and Swindon. Link has now been running for over 30 years.
Back in 1979 a young doctor, Dr John McQuitty who worked in Box, realised that sometimes we all need help in various ways and that at other times we can offer help to others. With this in mind he asked a few friends if they could visit patients, collect prescriptions and give lifts to people who couldn't get out. From this humble beginning he realised that there was a great potential to expand his idea. What he needed was someone to organise and expand the scheme so he asked Jacky Nicholas if she would consider becoming the first Co-ordinator.
Tragically, Dr John McQuitty died suddenly and in memory of him, Jacky formalised his pilot scheme as Box, Colerne and Rudloe Link. The Scheme flourished and over the next 30 years 45 Link
Schemes came into operation all based on Dr McQuitty's original concept.
Westbury & District Link Scheme was established in 1997 to address the needs of local residents. Since then, it's estimated that our volunteer drivers have travelled more than half a million
miles - helping their neighbours.
